    Trip Notes

    1. How to book Beijing Lhasa train ticket?

Foreign tourists can book Beijing Lhasa train tickets on the official 12306 China Railway English website or platforms like Trip.com. However, the most reliable way is to reserve through a licensed Tibet travel agency in advance. We will make every effort to secure train tickets that match your travel schedule and notify you as your booking is confirmed. Once you arrive in China, your Tibet train ticket will be delivered directly to your hotel to ensure a smooth boarding.

    2. What travel documents are needed to board Beijing Tibet train?

According to the Tibet Tourism Bureau, overseas travelers can only visit Tibet as part of a pre-arranged guided tour with a licensed local travel agency like us. To board the Beijing-Lhasa train to Tibet, you must present your Tibet Travel Permit, a valid passport, and your Tibet train ticket. Relying on us to arrange both your Tibet Travel Permit and train ticket ensures a smooth and hassle-free journey to Tibet.

    3. How long in advance should I book my train ticket to Lhasa?

For most trains in China, tickets are released 15 days before departure. However, trains to Tibet are extremely popular and often sell out quickly. Based on our experience, it's best to book your Tibet train ticket as soon as it becomes available to secure your preferred travel date.

    4. What ticket classes can I choose?

Tibet trains offer three types of tickets: soft sleeper (first class), hard sleeper (second class), and hard seat. However, hard-seat tickets are not recommended for this long journey. To make your trip to the Roof of the World comfortable and enjoyable, it's best to choose a soft or hard sleeper.

    5. How to deal with high altitude sickness when taking Tibet train?

Taking the train to Tibet is actually a great way to acclimatize gradually to high altitude. The initial section from Xining to Golmud rises slowly, from 2,200 meters to 2,780 meters, allowing most passengers to adapt comfortably. Mild symptoms such as headache or slight altitude sickness may occur only after passing Golmud, especially when crossing the Tanggula Mountains.

To help with this, Tibet trains are equipped with oxygen supply systems. Oxygen is piped into the cabin when passing Golmud, and individual oxygen outlets are available in each carriage. If symptoms persist, you can seek medical assistance from the onboard staff, as doctors are available on the train.

    6. How to board the train to Tibet from Beijing?

Once you have your Tibet train ticket, simply bring your luggage, passport, and Tibet Travel Permit, and follow the station guides to board the train.

It is recommended to arrive at the railway station at least 2 hours in advance, as you will need to go through security and luggage checks before boarding.

After completing the checks, locate your waiting room using the information displayed on the station's LED boards. Once on board, find your berth according to your ticket details and settle in as you wait for departure.

    7. Where to store my luggage on Tibet train?

In the soft and hard sleeper compartment, you can store your baggage in the overhead storage racks or under the lower berths.

For hard seat passengers, storage is limited to the shelves above your seat.

For security, it is recommended to lock your luggage and keep valuable items with you at all times.

    8. What can I expect to see along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway?

Traveling along the Qinghai-Tibet Railway offers breathtaking scenery , including vast grasslands dotted with yaks and nomadic tents, snow-capped peaks such as Mt. Yuzhu, turquoise lakes like Qinghai Lake, winding rivers and glaciers, the remote Kekexili Nature Reserve, and the dramatic Tanggula Mountain Pass, as well as glimpses of traditional Tibetan villages and monasteries. This journey not only showcases Tibet's natural beauty but also allows passengers to gradually acclimate to the high altitude.
