    1. Foreign tourists: Passport, Chinese Visa, Tibet Travel Permit.
    2. Tourists from Hong Kong and Macau: Home Return Permit and Border Permit.
    3. Tourists from Taiwan: Taiwan Compatriot Permit, Tibet Travel Permit, and Border Permit.

    2. How to apply for Tibet Travel Permit? How long does it take, and when will I receive it?

To apply for the Tibet Travel Permit, foreign travelers need to submit a scanned copy or photo of their valid passport and Chinese Visa. If you hold a work visa, you must also provide a work certificate; for student visa holders, a student certification is required. For travelers from Taiwan, only a scanned copy or photo of Taiwan Compatriot Permit is necessary to process the Tibet Travel Permit.

The application usually takes 7-14 working days. Once approved, we will send it to your Chinese Mainland address about 3-5 days before your departure, so you can present it when boarding your train or flight to Tibet.

    3. When is the best time for a Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour?

The ideal periods for a Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour are generally April to mid-June and September to November, when the weather is pleasant and the Himalayan scenery is at its most spectacular.

During summer, Tibet always rains at night, leaving the days clear and comfortable. If you don't mind occasional showers during the drive and prefer warmer temperatures, summer can be a good choice. However, be careful near the Gyirong border, as heavy rain may cause landslides and make roads dangerous.

Winter, from November to early February, offers a more economical option with fewer tourists and lower costs at attractions.

    4. How about the road condition from Lhasa to Kathmandu?

Due to the development of Tibet's tourism and infrastructure, the roads from Lhasa to Kathmandu are generally in good condition. Most of the journey is on well-paved asphalt roads, suitable for standard vehicles. The smooth road from Lhasa to Gyirong Port covers approximately 820km. The road from Gyirong Port to Kathmandu, about 180km, can be dusty and uneven, but the scenery along this section is spectacular.

Don't worry, we will arrange experienced drivers who are familiar with Tibet's high-altitude terrain and local road conditions to make your land journey as comfortable as possible.

    5. How about the hotel and dinning options along the route Lhasa to Kathmandu?

In cities like Lhasa and Shigatse, accommodation options are abundant and diverse, ranging from luxury hotels to budget-friendly guesthouses. You can choose according to your budget and preferences.

However, at Everest Base Camp, the tent guesthouse provides several beds with basic facilities. Rongbu Monastery Guesthouse is one of the best points to view Mount Everest. In winter, these tent guesthouses will close, so you need to stay in Rongbuk Monastery or nearby towns such as Tashi Dzom Town or Basong Village. In Gyirong town, standard hotels are available. While accommodations here are simple, they are generally clean and comfortable.

As for dining, towns and scenic spots along the route offer a variety of options, including Tibetan restaurants and Sichuan cuisine. No matter your dietary preferences, you can usually find suitable meals along the way-even vegetarians will have options at local restaurants.

    6. What should I pack for Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour?

For the Lhasa to Kathmandu overland trip, it's important to be prepared for high-altitude conditions and changing weather. So, bringing adequate warm clothing is essential, such as sweaters, woolen tops, thick down jackets, windproof pants, and thermal leggings. Shoes should be non-slip sports or hiking boots. Scarves, gloves, and hats are also indispensable. It’s recommended to dress in layers to adapt to changing temperatures.

In addition, a sun hat, sunglasses, a face mask, and sunscreen are essential, as the ultraviolet rays on the Tibetan plateau are very strong.

You may also carry a small backpack with basic medications for emergencies, such as band-aids, anti-diarrhea medicine, cold medicine, and glucose. Since the weather is dry in Tibet, it's also best to bring lip balm and facial cream.

    7. What should I do if altitude sickness occurs in the Lhasa Kathmandu overland tour?

Altitude sickness can affect some travelers on the Lhasa to Kathmandu route, as elevations along the journey are high. Common symptoms include headache, dizziness, fatigue, and shortness of breath. To minimize discomfort, it's recommended to ascend gradually, stay well-hydrated, avoid overexertion, and get plenty of rest. Our guide will monitor your condition and provide advice or assistance if symptoms occur. You can also choose to carry medications or remedies for mild altitude sickness, which can be helpful for a more comfortable journey.

    8. How far in advance should I book the 7-day Lhasa to Kathmandu tour?
